Audiences are most familiar with Mahershala Ali for his work in the Netflix hit series House of Cards. He is now hitting the big screen in Hunger Games Mockingjay – Part 1. According to Screen Rant, Ali’s character Boggs, the bodyguard for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), is quite different from the Boggs of the Suzanne Collins novel. Ali brings youth and dynamism to a role that originally was written as a graying, blue-eyed soldier.
Ali sat down with Good Day Sacramento to discuss being a part of the box office megahit franchise. In this exclusive interview, the Oakland native discusses what it was like to shoot the film in abandoned warehouses; the impact of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death on the movie and how the film has special relevance to Bay Area people.
